One of them, anyway. Australian swimming superstar Tracy Wickham set world records in both 400m and 800m freestyle events at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. For almost 30 years those records have survived unbeaten.

Brisbane teenager Bronte Barratt - a hot favourite for the 2008 Olympic Games - has just succeeded in claiming the prize for the 400m, finishing in an astonishing 4.05.03. Superb.

The New Inventors isn't exactly home to the latest in fitness gadgets (in fact, I don't recall ever seeing one on there), but tonight was an exception. Enter the Li'l Gym.

As part of this month's article series on fitness and the media, Blaine takes a look at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Osaka. I'm very much looking forward to these; particularly as Osaka is only an hour behind us so the events are always on at a reasonable time.

Just when I thought there were no more twists possible to the humble treadmill, I came across this - an underwater treadmill [streaming, 11.4mb .flv download]. Currently it's being used to assist those with Cerebral Palsy; though no doubt it there be a wide range of rehab uses in the near future.

Looks perfect for very light recovery sessions.
