Biphasic sleep : Day 28 - Test articles

Biphasic sleep : Day 28Keeping to the 'week of waking before the alarm', I shaved a massive 35 minutes off this morning. Not quite sure why; though as I'm not currently feeling any negative effects I'm not overly concerned. Will see if things change later in the day.

Following nap

That was an interesting test. Tonight I was out until around 21:30 - around 2 hours later than my usual nap start time. As expected, I found myself dead on my feet by the end. However, afterwards I had perhaps a 40-50 minute nap, which seemed to reset things a bit. I guess I'll find out tomorrow whether that's enough, but I shouldn't imagine the occasional shorter nap will do any harm at all.

Biphasic sleep : Day 27 - Test articles

Biphasic sleep : Day 27Once again I woke up before the alarm (by about 30 minutes this time); however I decided to roll over and go back to sleep. When the alarm sounded I wasn't sleeping terribly deeply, and getting out of bed wasn't particularly difficult.

Unlike the past two days I didn't have the 'ready to go' bonus thoughts this time. I'm not quite sure what caused them, but I wouldn't mind it back. It really does make an enormous difference.

Following nap

Not bad at all. It feels as though my body's really getting used to biphasic sleeping - much better quality sleep. Dream recall, feeling of alertness following a nap, time taken to get to sleep in the first place - all are improved. Definitely good.

The smallest backup device - History

MicrovaultLegacy News has an interesting piece on the use of thumb drives for backups. With both the capacity and price of these devices now reasonable, there's no excuse for not backing up your data.

Suspended kettlebell chin-upJust noticed an interesting variety of chin-up on the latest compilation video [streaming, 12.4mb .flv download via KeepVid] from the Diesel Crew - the suspended kettlebell chin. With both hands resting on the curved surface of the bell, rather than gripping a bar, this severely increases the grip component of the exercise.

Looks great.

Sleep when you're deadMedical News Today mentions an interesting study by the Université de Montréal on the effects of caffeine consumption on daytime vs nighttime sleep. The findings, published in the current issue of Neuropsychopharmacology, indicate that a cup of coffee at night has much more impact on subsequent daytime sleep than one in the daytime has on nocturnal sleep.

Biphasic sleep : Day 26 - Test articles

Biphasic sleep : Day 26As per yesterday, I woke up this morning before the alarm (beat it by about 20 mins), with the day all-but-planned. This state of being 'ready to go' is fantastic - highly productive. A beautiful thing.

Following nap

Not bad. It's been a hot day here, and things cooled down just in time (it was much cooler when I woke than when I went to sleep) and the regular 'it's comfortable here' excuse to sleep in was taken away. I got up after 90 minutes.

Now I just need to finish waking up.
